Executive Summary *

Canada’s wealth landscape is transforming rapidly. The top 20% of households now hold nearly two-thirds of the nation’s total net worth, driven largely by financial asset growth rather than real estate appreciation. At the same time, more than three-quarters of business owners plan to exit their companies within the next decade, representing over $2 trillion in business assets set to change hands.

These two forces, namely, wealth concentration and succession transition; are converging to create both complexity and opportunity. Financial institutions, wealth firms, and advisors must evolve their strategies, strengthen internal partnerships, and embrace technological innovation to meet the growing sophistication of client needs.

The next decade will define which institutions become trusted stewards of intergenerational wealth and which are left behind.
